Family/Friend Activation to Motivate Self-Care of Type 1 Diabetes (FAMS-T1D):
The READY study demonstrated that young adults diabetes management depends on self-regulation skills and social relationships. Dr. Lindsay Mayberry at Vanderbilt University developed an intervention to help adults with type 2 diabetes better utilize their social networks to support diabetes self-care. The intervention combines phone-coaching to facilitate diabetes goal setting and skills to manage social relationships, text messaging to the person with diabetes to facilitate goal progress and social support, and text messaging to a support person to facilitate dialogue and support for diabetes self-care. We are currently modifying and piloting this intervention for emerging adults with type 1 diabetes. This study is a collaboration with Dr. Mayberry at Vanderbilt University and Dr. Cynthia Berg at University of Utah
