Family Communication About Type 1 Diabetes (FCD):

We are partnering with Valley Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to examine how Latino families who have an adolescent (ages 10-15) with type 1 diabetes manage conflicts and emotions related to diabetes. We recruited 71 mostly Latino adolescents and their parents to complete surveys and participate in a video-taped family discussion about a diabetes-related conflict. We recently completed data collection and coding of the family interactions. This project is in collaboration with Drs. Alexandra Main (Developmental Psychology) and Linda Cameron (Health Psychology) at UC Merced, Dr. Nedim Cakan at Valley Children’s Hospital, and Dr. Jennifer Raymond at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
